From Embers is a regular anarchist podcast produced in Kingston, Ontario. We produce a few episodes each month about actions and projects going on in so-called Canada that inspire us, or about topics that we think will be relevant to anarchists living north of the border. We are part of the Channel Zero Anarchist Podcast Network.
2020 has been a very strange year thus far. The first two months were marked by a frenzy of activity in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en land defense, and our content reflected that. Then, as the barricades across the country started to come down, we immediately found ourselves in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working on several episodes reflecting on this new reality of “social distancing,” lockdowns and economic recession. If you have ideas for content, email us at fromembers [at] riseup.net.
We published three episodes in March 2020:
March 12th: Reflections from Kanonhstaton
Talking with a non-native anarchist who spent time at Kanonhstaton in 2006, a land reclamation led by members of Six Nations blocking the development of a private subdivision on their territory.
We discuss his experience at Six, dynamics on the ground before and after the police raid, and the possibilities and complexities of anarchist-indigenous solidarity with the current wave of Wet’suwet’en solidarity in mind.
March 19th: The Syrian Uprising and Solidarity
An interview with Salam, a member of the Syria Solidarity Collective based in Toronto. We talk about the Syrian uprising, anti-imperalism and the left, the ongoing need for international solidarity with the people of Syria, and more.
March 31st: Grounding Ourselves Amid The Chaos
An interview with Montreal-based counselling and somatic therapist Parneet Chohan on the Covid-19 pandemic, anxiety, communication, reading the news, and caring for ourselves and each other through troubled times.
You can tune in to From Embers in the Kingston area on CFRC 101.9 FM between 8 and 9 PM on Wednesdays. You can also stream episodes directly at fromembers.libsyn.com or subscribe and download them via any major podcatching app on your smartphone.
