On October 31st, instead of treats, Scotiabank was the recipient of tricks, with three ATMs glued closed across the Yonge subway line in Toronto. We say no to business as usual as Scotiabank profits from genocide with the public’s money! Canadian financial institutions continue to profit from genocide. Did you know that by holding an account with Scotiabank, your funds are directed into Israel’s war machine? This is the same war machine that is committing a genocide in Gaza and has illegally attacked Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. Through 1832 Asset Management, Scotiabank uses public wealth to invest in in Elbit Systems: an Israeli owned weapons company that manufactures 85% of Israel’s drones and up to 80% of their land-based military equipment. They build the Hermes drones, which are used to kill the inhabitants of Gaza and produce white phosphorus, an internationally-banned chemical weapon. Scotiabank owns 2.5 % of Elbit’s outstanding shares, making them among Elbit’s top 5 shareholders.

Over the past few years, the public has successfully targeted Scotiabank to divest from Elbit. Inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement, BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) puts economic pressure on Israel to end the occupation of Palestine. Although Scotiabank had reduced their investment in response to public pressure, they quietly began increasing their investment in 2025. Scotiabank continues to invest in war atrocities and genocide.

Scotiabank’s actions will not continue without repercussions. Refuse Scotiabank services – no credit cards, no ATMs, no financial services! We join the global efforts to target Elbit Systems which have successfully impacted their supply chain and operations, resulting in diminished capacity.
