Every passing year, the forces of domination holding the planet in a chokehold seem only to continue tightening their grip upon our throats. Those of us who live in Tsí Tkarón:to (so-called Toronto) face a growing number of daily threats ranging from a never-ending affordability crisis to a resurgence of white-nationalists marching through the streets. The provincial government at Queen’s Park wages war against everyday people across the region, while the merchants of death headquartered on Bay Street continue to desecrate the land and reap profits from genocide on Turtle Island and beyond.
Resistance is a matter of life and death—yet the culture of protest in this city remains strangled by liberal nonprofits offering little more than symbolic street parades and patronizing attempts at charity. Many of us who have witnessed their failures year after year yearn for something different, something more. Something truly powerful.
Now more than ever, so-called Toronto needs a revival of anarchy. We need horizontal, decentralized networks capable of direct, coordinated counteroffense against the capitalist-colonial death machine; just as we need resilient local communities sustained by economies of solidarity and mutual aid. We as anarchists need to step up, expand our networks, learn from each other. We need to organize.
We are very excited, therefore, to announce the 2026 Tsí Tkarón:to Anarchist Bookfair—a gathering place for anarchists and all our friends to share incendiary ideas, build relationships, and catalyze the growth of anarchist organizing in so-called Toronto! Join us on October 17th at United Steelworkers Hall to explore anti-authoritarian literature, make friends, learn new skills, and take part in the effort to build a diverse anarchist ecosystem that can resist and replace the monocultures of capitalism and colonialism imposed upon this land. There is a place here for everyone who stands against domination—from anarcho-curious teens just starting to get involved, to those who have carried the black flag for decades. We need all of us.
Remember: wear a mask, don’t photograph, film, or record anyone without explicit consent, and leave smart glasses and similar technologies at home. We share a responsibility to keep ourselves and our communities safe, including from surveillance and infectious diseases. Free KN95/N95 masks will be provided.
Tabling and workshop applications coming very soon! If you are an artist, bookseller, or zine-maker that distributes materials of interest to anarchists, or an organizer or collective wanting to host a talk, discussion, or skill-share, we strongly encourage you to apply! We welcome tables and workshops on any and all themes relevant to anarchists, ranging from disability justice to street tactics to critical analyses of historic and ongoing struggles. We especially hope to see materials, discussions, and skill-shares focused on decentralized, place-based organizing; lessons learned from recent failures and successes in so-called Toronto; and practical skills such as protest first aid, mesh networking, and more. We also welcome folks who wish to share resources such as masks, harm reduction supplies, or HRT kits to table at the event!
