Update from Black Oak Anarchist Social Space and Statement on the Repression of A/I

Like thousands of projects, we have made use of the digital infrastructure provided by Autistici/Inventati, creators of the noblogs publishing platform.

In light of their designation as a terrorist organization by the Trump administration on August 26, and their announcement this week that they will be shutting down operations, we want to express our solidarity with and gratitude for the A/I collective. It is an invaluable service to be able to use digital infrastructure, at no cost and with the knowledge that it is created and maintained by folks who share our values. We often take movement infrastructure for granted, but we would not have services like noblogs, riseup, kolektiva, or many others without the work of folks who have seen a need and volunteered their time to make it happen. In a world where we rely on digital communication as part of how we connect and share information, we’re grateful for the people who are keeping up the fight to provide autonomous and secure modes of doing so.

On a practical note, at the time of writing we no longer have the ability to update our website, and it will likely be completely offline before too long. For now, please look for event listings and updates at north-shore.info/black-oak-anarchist-social-space. (And thank you to the north shore collective!)

The subject of recent events concerning A/I, and the increasing surveillance and repression of anarchist projects came up at this week’s open hours at Black Oak. We talked about the need for redundancy and decentralization in our digital and communications infrastructure, and the need to be prepared to lose other services we currently rely on. We also talked about the importance of in-person spaces and communication. How, if Signal went down tomorrow, we would know how to find each other in person at least once per week at open hours (every Monday from 6-8pm!) We encourage people to really think through these possibilities, and talk about them now, because the repression will not end with A/I and successful backup plans will require preparation.

Against the internet and its world, for life, solidarity, and autonomy in all their forms!
