International Call For New Year’s Eve Noise Demonstrations

This is a call for a raucous night of strong solidarity with those imprisoned by the state on one of the noisiest nights of the year. On New Year’s Eve gather your crew, collective, community, organization, or just yourself and come together to raise a racket and remind those on the inside that they are not alone.

Internationally, noise demonstrations outside of prisons are a way to remember those who are held captive by the state and a way to show solidarity with imprisoned comrades and loved ones. We come together to break the loneliness and isolation. Read More …

Toronto: Free Transit Now Means Nobody Pays

Transit is a part of daily life for so many of us, and is entangled in issues of class, accessibility, race, the environment, among others.

In so-called Toronto we’ve been disgusted by the recent ad campaign on the TTC discouraging fare evasion, and the expansion of fare enforcement. At the end of November, the TTC is ending the sale of tokens, pushing people towards the less-accessible, more easily surveilled Presto card.

We’ve been inspired by and want to express solidarity with the mass fare evasions led by youth and racialized communities from Chile to New York. We share in their struggles against poverty, criminalization and police brutality.

We’d like to call attention to the call for mass fare evasion on November 29  (the same day as a climate mobilization led by Fridays for Future here in Toronto, which we see as related – fair transit is climate justice!) and to a website with posters, stickers and resources for our local context: https://FireToThePrestoMachines.noblogs.org

Call For Local Actions: October 3rd Day Of Action Against Canada’s Detention Of Migrants

CALL FOR LOCAL ACTIONS: OCTOBER 3RD DAY OF ACTION AGAINST CANADA’S DETENTION OF MIGRANTS
What: Multi-City Day of Action Against Migrant Detention
When: October 3, 2019
Where: Pan-Canadian & International

We are calling for actions on October 3rd that focus on the sprawling infrastructure of Canada’s immigration detention system.

Over the past two years, there has been an active struggle against the construction of a new prison for migrants planned for Laval, Québec. Opposition to this project has included many groups and tactics, each fighting in their own way for an end to Canada’s border and prison regimes. Read More …

Hamilton: Cedar is out!

UPDATE: Cedar has been out for a couple now and is doing well. She hasn’t been able to shed any light on why she was released though, she only found out about it the day before, having received no official communication after the parole hearing, not even a copy of the ruling. Its good that sometimes we get nice surprises. They’re slowly catching up on everything that’s been happening and want to pass on so much gratitude for the support, solidarity with all the pride defenders charged (drop the charges!), and all those still locked up are big in their thoughts. As good as it is to be out, its hard to leave people behind in there, and though we celebrate that our friend is safe, we try to remember as well the violence faced by other queers, especially queers of colour, and so many others. Looking at the police service board meeting this week and the super soft bail release for the only person who has been arrested for assaulting folks at Pride, it is clearer than ever that the cops and courts will never protect us and we need to continue to build towards autonomy without them. The struggles of the last month are only the beginning. Read More …

Camp Chaos Gays Farewell Statement

For 3 days last weekend the chaos queers held an encampment at city hall that was more inclusive, productive, and community-centred space than the last 3 years of bureaucratic work going on inside.

We are some of the same queers Mayor Fred has called fake and tried to label as agitators; some of the same ones police have tried criminalizing. We are rebel queers; still resisting. Still loud. Always political. Still seeking and creating alternatives to the status quo. Who see what happened at Pride as a symptom of an ongoing issue in this city (and beyond) and a flashpoint; not a one-off event. Our identity and consistency makes it easy for them to try and label us as agitators, but not easy to shut us down. Read More …

UPDATE: More Queers in Hamilton Arrested!

On the 50th anniversary of Stonewall and on the Day of Action that was called in support of pride defenders, Hamilton Police have arrested two additional people. That is two more people who have been arrested for fighting back against queer and transphobia, misogyny, and white supremacy. That brings the current total of arrests to five. That’s right, five queers who have been targeted, harassed, and arrested. This is beyond Read More …

US Solidarity With Queer and Trans Anarchists in Hamilton

A friend put it best when they said that Hamilton cops “kicked a hornet’s nest” in their recent arrest of our beloved Cedar and continued targeting of queer and trans anarchists in so-called Hamilton, Ontario. Indeed, we are an outraged bunch of queer and trans anarchists living in the so-called United States who see much of our own identities and struggles reflected in the ongoing situation in Hamilton, and seek to express our ongoing support and solidarity with Cedar and their comrades in this challenging time. This Is Why You Weren’t Invited: Hamilton Police Target Queers Fighting Back

Starting yesterday evening and into today Hamilton Police Services (HPS) have begun to harass those who were involved in the events that took place at Hamilton Pride.[1] We are not referring to the hateful and exceedingly aggressive bigots who attacked folks, but those who defended themselves and other queers at Pride. As the police talk about “imminent arrests”[2], they are not targeting (or at least not exclusively targeting) the far-right chauvinists who instigated a fight, but those queers from the community who faced the brunt of their violence. HPS have shown up to multiple houses where known queer anarchists live, asking for people suspected to have been involved in the incident. In unmarked cars and plain clothes; in police cruisers and full uniform, Hamilton Police are threatening and clearly trying to intimidate those who were attacked. They’ve banged on doors and windows, camped out on front porches, and even surrounded and trapped a person in their driveway as they attempted to leave their house. The police certainly are not on our side and they are most definitely not out to “protect us”. We share this text so that others in the community can show their support and solidarity, and put pressure on the police and city to drop this attempt at targeting brave people who stood up for all of us last weekend.
